Free MTG pack opening simulator
PackSim opens Magic: The Gathering booster packs in your browser, for free and without an account. It covers 113 sets and 155 booster products, from Fourth Edition (1995) to Star Trek. Every pack is built slot by slot from that booster's published odds, so foils, wildcards, rarity upgrades and special treatments show up as often as they do in real packs.
Each card shows its current market price, and your session keeps a running total, average and best pack. Every booster also has its own page with its expected value, the chase cards and the odds of each one, and a full breakdown of what each slot can hold.
Collector Boosters
Fifteen cards, nearly all of them premium: extended-art, borderless and showcase versions, plus the set's special foils such as textured, galaxy, surge or fracture foil. They cost the most and have the widest spread of outcomes, so most packs land below the average and a few land far above it. Compare Collector Booster EV across sets.
Play Boosters
Play Boosters replaced Draft and Set Boosters starting with Murders at Karlov Manor in 2024. They have 14 cards, at least one rare or mythic, a foil of any rarity and a wildcard slot. Six of them make a sealed pool, which is how prereleases are played. Play Booster vs Collector Booster.
Draft and Set Boosters
Older sets open as Draft Boosters: 15 cards with ten commons, three uncommons, a rare or mythic and a land, with a foil replacing a common in some packs. Sets from 2020 to 2023 also had Set Boosters, built for opening rather than drafting. Classic sets from the 1990s and 2000s follow their original print sheets.
Sealed pools
The sealed simulator opens six packs at once and sorts the pool by color, ready to build a 40-card deck. Use it to practice before a prerelease or just to see what a box's worth of packs looks like.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is an MTG pack simulator?
A pack simulator opens virtual Magic: The Gathering booster packs. PackSim builds each pack from that booster's real slot odds, shows every card with its market price, and costs nothing - it's a way to see what a set's packs feel like before you buy them.
Are the pull rates accurate?
Each booster follows its published slot structure and odds, including wildcard slots, foil chances and rare treatments. Every booster page lists the odds slot by slot, so you can check them yourself.
Where do the card prices come from?
From Scryfall, which reports TCGplayer market prices in US dollars. PackSim refreshes them every night.
What is a pack's expected value (EV)?
The average value of a pack: every card's price multiplied by its chance of appearing, added up. Because rare chase cards pull the average up, most packs are worth less than it. Booster pages show both the EV and the median pack. See every booster ranked by EV.
What's the difference between Play Boosters and Collector Boosters?
Play Boosters (14 cards) are the standard booster for drafting, sealed and casual opening. Collector Boosters (15 cards) are packed with foils and alternate-art versions and cost several times more. Full comparison.
Can I simulate a sealed pool or a booster box?
Yes. The sealed simulator opens six packs and sorts them by color for deck building. For a box, keep opening packs: your session tracks packs opened, total value, average, best and worst pack.
Which sets can I open?
113 sets, from the newest releases back to the 1990s. See every set.
Is PackSim free?
Yes. No account, no limits on how many packs you open.
